A Columbia, South Carolina, native, Chef Tess Ward joined the Motor Supply Co. Bistro team in the fall of 2015.
Although her roots lie in the Southeast, Ward’s career as a pastry chef was established in Portland, Oregon. Two years into her career, Ward moved to North Carolina and then to Tennessee, where she worked frequently with local farms — spurring her appreciation of hyper-local ingredients.
Within her first year as pastry chef at Motor Supply, Ward worked alongside Executive Chef Wes Fulmer to reimagine the dessert menu, making it a goal to feature versatile ingredients like juniper berries, whiskey, orange peels and heirloom strawberries in a dessert menu full of vibrant flavors.
Ward enjoys the freedom Motor Supply gives her to craft unique dishes using unexpected flavor combinations, like her personal favorite — a gluten-free, flourless brownie topped with a goat cheese mousse. Her advice, whether inside or outside of the kitchen, is, “Go above and beyond, appreciate opportunities that challenge you, and above all, have fun.”
