Sous Chef Eric Hayward grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and has lived in Beaufort, S.C., but spent many of his younger years in cities across the U.S. with two parents in the military. His time elsewhere has led him to enjoy the slow-paced lifestyle of Columbia compared to that of other Southeastern cities he has worked in such as New Orleans and Charleston, S.C.
Eric is a self-taught chef who has cultivated his talent through experience in the kitchen and outside research. Since becoming sous chef at Motor Supply, Eric has enjoyed giving guidance to others, helping craft daily-changing menus and assisting Chef Wes Fulmer. He appreciates the sustainable efforts behind Motor Supply’s menu and the way the restaurant finds additional uses for ingredients that have been previously used in some way — whether that be in a dish or a cocktail.
Outside of the kitchen, Eric can be found skateboarding, watching movies and reading cookbooks, from which he draws inspiration to continue learning, growing and trying new things.
